I picked up a well priced MKII Speedmaster case but the previous owner has damaged the crown tube. How do you go about replacing these?

    Any info appreciated, thanks

I'm not sure with the Mk II but the tubes are either screwed or pressed in, so if you get the new one first, you will know.

It's a pressed in case tube.

    Two choices.

    Estwing or Archer.

My recommendation is Archer (or his equivalent in your locality).

There are specific tools for pushing case tubes in and out. You can also try inserting a large cutting broach into the tube, giving it a light tap with a hammer so it grips the inside of the tube, and then turn the broach to remove the tube. Heat may be required to soften any adhesive that might have been used.

    Cheers, Al

    A watchmaker.

Drive to your watchmaker's shop with the watch and tell him/her that the crown tube needs replacing.

    Sure, any time!

Well, these pendant tubes are actually a very inexpensive part. So if you trash one in the process of learning how to fit it, it's not the end of the world. Just be sure that you protect the case adequately from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune . . . ;)

Al: Does the same applies to the Seamaster professional case (2531 / 2254 / 2264 etc)?

Depends on the specific model, as some are press fitted and some threaded. Even within a model it can change over time...

Thanks Al; have a Semaster 41mm that the crown does not screw in correctly so will have to get it fixed soon; wonder if it is pressed fitted or screwed like this one shown below:
