and that you take a walk in the fresh air.

read this at first as “take a wank in the fresh air” and for a moment I thought there was hope for us after-all

Who wore it better watches edition: Swatch x Omega or Hublot (new from W&W)

Wow. If those were how the Omega x Swatch project went, I could understand the vitriol that is around.

They look like a Swatch. That purple is godawful.

I was not a Hublot fan before, this has not moved the needle.

Unless MSRP is under US$300

These moonswatches might become easily available or they might go in direction of hard to come by. I can’t remember how many watches I have lusted after, and put on my mental ‘must buy list’, it’s a lot. Invariably, another ‘must buy’ watch comes along and I have forgotten about the previous one. People are fickle. In the watch world there is a constant stream of new watches coming along. To me, it seems the sensible thing for Swatch to do is to strike while the iron is hot; sell as many of these watches as quickly as possible before they become yesterday’s news.

Precisely. Prior to the advent of the MoonSwatch I was eager to get a new Oyster Perpetual 41 but I quickly realized I wouldn’t wear a new Rolex any more than I wear my older Rolexes, even if I did manage to buy one.

If Swatch do make the MoonSwatch readily available as I expect, it will be interesting to see how many of the assembled multitudes from last week are still committed to their purchases.

thanks for that.

curious on folks thoughts about this: “On Saturday, no matter how quickly Swatch closed its boutiques, it almost certainly sold more Moonswatches in one morning than Omega will sell Speedmasters all year.”

anyone have an estimate of Speedmasters Omega sells in a year? (I suppose main Pro, then all branded as Speedmasters?)

A few other questionable statements about watches makes it seem this gent is more of a professional in marketing than watchmaking, but in all good to see a marketing analysis.

Sums it up well:

“If you are an economist you are now going to draw a chart showing the likely cannibalisation of Speedmasters at £3,000 by Moonswatches at £200. But that would just prove how little you actually know about brands or consumers…. The big challenge for Omega is not consumers trading down from a Speedmaster to a cheap Moonswatch, it is the ignorance and ambivalence towards a Speedmaster of those looking for a luxury watch. Keeping it alive, exciting and in the cultural consciousness is an important objective. Seeing the masses lined up to fail to buy a cheap replica of a Speedmaster cannot be a negative brand experience.”

On reflection, best to chill about this and let’s see what happens. It may be good for Omega or it may be good for Swatch and not even effect Omega long term. Yes it was a bit of a shock, but being over negative is no good for anyone. This comment is directed at everyone on the forum and myself.

Yep, so basically what most people were saying on day 1. Glad you have finally arrived...

MoonSwatch popularity directly relied on people already knowing about the Moonwatch and viewing it favourably. This pre-condition therefore negates the supposed 'benefit' to Omega... no...?

No, actually. I think there's plenty of evidence that these went "viral" to the point that people who had no idea of the Speedmaster were now aware of it. Footage of the lines at stores made news...

But what is happening on March 30th then ?
😕
.

there’s a better video by this same guy (how many of these is he going to make? 😁), where he uses a wet q-tip and shows some blue coming off

However, an owner of this model on this forum has done the same test to no effect.

So at the moment it would appear this is an issue that effects only the blue version, and only some sun-set of those units

Blue Origin just completed its fourth flight this morning. Did the passengers have real Omega Speedmasters on their wrists like last time, or did they switch to the $260 Swatch plastic jobs?

Given that the private space race will never hold a candle to the efforts of NASA in the 20th century, the MoonSwatch seems an appropriate piece of kit these days

Was passing and small queue outside Swatch Covent Garden. They are back in stock it seems. Security man said tomorrow they should have more.

At this price point, there better be a micro adjustment

Well it's velcro, so technically it's infinite adjustment.
