About a week ago, I picked up this Longines with a waffle dial from eBay for $180. I was hesitant to buy it at first, thinking it might be a redial, but after seeing it in person, it looks to be original. It was made for the US market, sold by Longines-Wittnauer. It's got a stainless steel case made by the great Star Watch Case Co., with a cal 23z movement. The serial number on the movement dates it to 1956. These waffle dials seemed to have been a popular feature in Longines watches in the 1940s and 50s. The dial is really the star with this watch. It features the waffle texture, a crosshair, a ring of printed dots along the edge, a center seconds register, faceted arrow-shaped markers and rectangular lume plots. There's a lot going on in the dial, but somehow it looks so balanced and elegant. Anyway, here are some pictures!
