I have a dilemma on a trade. I currently own a Rolex Explorer 16570 circa 1999. I'm wanting to go back to owning an Omega seamaster again. I had the "the great white" version before and really miss it. The quality of Omega watches is outstanding. In my opinion, I feel the quality of my seamaster surpasses my current Rolex Explorer. What would be a fair trade for my rolex to an Omega Seamaster ceramic co-axial? Should I ask for cash as well? Or would it be a fair trade. I've worn my explorer for the past two years almost everyday, so there is normal wear. My explorer The Seamaster I'm contemplating
You must compare apples to apples. What series is your Rolex? box and papers included? You can start by looking at the sold auctions on eBay and see for how much these black dial Explorer II have sold for recently - that will give you a ball park figure on the resale value of your watch. I'd do the same for the Seamaster in question.
Pre-owned explorer 16570 should go from 3500 to 3800. Brand new Seamaster ceramic can be had for under $3200. You might be able to make a little extra cash.
That's about right for sold Explorer II on the bay, +|- couple of hundreds on either end, it seems on the surface that white dials are more popular.
Hmm what I always do is type the reference into eBay and click 'sold listings' and go to watchrecon.com and type in the reference number and click 'all time.' It will give you an idea of what each watch goes for. Look at pictures and descriptions to see what comes with each price and what condition each watch is in. Let us know what you end up doing!
I think I might have made a mistake. I went through with the deal. My only concern is the Omega will depreciate and the Rolex would not have. Then again, I enjoy the seamaster and in the big scheme of things what is $2000 loss. I came up with $2000 because no matter how long down the road, the Rolex's value would have stayed at $3500 and up. The seamaster would maybe stay at $1800 to $2000 down the road.
There's a basic question here. Do you buy watches to appreciate or enjoy? I think it is important. Of course, at age 63 I am agnostic. Regards. Bill
I think that answers your question. Go with what YOU like. Your taste will develop. Enjoy the journey.
