Giving some thought to this watch. Any advice would be appreciated. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1970-Omega-S...-ST145-022-71-Cal-861-Moon-Watch/201998059905Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
At that price I'd want pictures of the sides to show brushing. It's top dollar even with the bracelet. He's pushing collectors grade pricing even with the box and bracelet, I'd want a serial number check and better pictures of the case. At that price I'm not a fan of the fit of the endlinks.
What he said. Plus you want to make certain it has a step dial, and an attractive one at that (for that price). I am looking on my phone, so not sure if that is affecting the picture quality but I can't see the step and the tritium looks very white... Edit : better viewed on PC. Definitely a step dial, how attractive it is is up to your taste. Hands look untouched. From the few angles one gets of the case sides it may have been 'lightly' finished at one point in time. Also, its Canadian dollars, thought it was US. Have seen some real tired looking '71s head only go for not much less or more than that if one factors out +- $1k us for the bracelet.
Thanks for the feedback. I have asked for movement and case back pictures. He said crown, pushers and seal were just replaced including a service. He bought from original owner and nothing else has been done to the watch. I will share the pictures when I get them.
I didn't notice it was CAD... Looks correct one shot is not blown out and appears to have nice yellowed hand lume to match the dial. Pictures are not helping here... Assuming the serial number is correct it about market. If the case is great it's a little undervalued if the bracelet is correct vintage.
I think it looks really nice. Dial, handset, and bezel all look to be in excellent condition. It's clearly been worn but I think the price is right for a full set with box, papers, and bracelet.
I think that looks pretty good - I think it's fair to say it's not a 1970 watch if it's a -71 reference, but that might be splitting hairs. The case looks to me like it may have been lightly polished, but still looks pretty crisp. The bezel is very nice (almost too clean?), dial and hands look good though the lighting doesn't do the pics any favours. The serial no from what I can read is 31615xxx, which puts it only a little before my June 71 watch of the same ref, at 31617xxx. So in summary, I think that looks like a nice watch. SM101's price chart says pay $3500 for a good example head only, and the bracelet & end links are worth another $600-700 or so, so at $4200 tops, that should work out at C$5250; factor in that it's fairly recently serviced (2016) and you might bump that to C$5750 or a little more. Why not make the vendor an offer and see what they say?
So I got the watch today and I am posting some pics since I know how we all like them If you see anything that doesn't look right please let me know. Also the seller had recently serviced the watch, which included replacing the crystal, crown and pushers. However he still had old ones and I asked him to send them to me. Not sure if is worth keeping but better safe than sorry.
