So.... I was searching for this one for a long, long time and when I saw it I knew I had to buy. I was aware of the dial deterioration on the outerrim but with getting older, thicker and uglier myself I'm getting softer concernig the condition of watches. Especially with a grand old lady like this. Anyway, as far as I can see the watch looks ok (you can correct me if I'm wrong of course). Yes, the plexi is generic and the case was polished but everything else checkes out (at least IMO). But my question is really the following. I've read a interesting thread about flaking lacquer from moisture intrusion and unharmed underlying paint. Thanks to @Rman there seems to be a solution in some cases. Here is the thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/constellation-2852-7sc-rather-rare.52458/page-2 What would you do? Would you investigate this option or would you stay away and respect the originality? Or can we see from the pictures that this is not a option because the underlying paint is damaged? Thanks guys for your time and I hope you enjoy the pictures!
That is one of the nicer examples I’ve seen in a very long time. Have the movement serviced if it needs to be and leave the rest alone. gatorcpa
I put in the watching list on ebay but then forgot the day the auction ended or else I may bid against you. Anyway congratz on this piece
Haha. I was going with this one till the end. My max bid was much much higher then the selling price... I've been looking for years! You could say this is kind of a grail watch for me. My primary target for 2019 was a SM 300 but maybe that was because I gave up on finding this model with the black dial. Never give up and keep the faith!
I think the caution on dial work is “Don’t unless you are willing to pay for an expert redial when it all goes wrong”.
I was watching this one too, but geographical location was one of the reasons ( together with the dial edge ) that I didn't bid. I do like it a lot however and think you got it for a great price. Your photo's make it look better than the seller's and I'd definitely be leaving the dial alone. Enjoy!
I'd start going to the gym Only kidding, I think is a great looking watch and I wouldn't say the patina is that bad.
Looks nice to me as well. Can't find any overpolish as well. Little polish yes, but not too much as you find often. Congratulation, very nice watch!
I have the same issue with my 2782. You can see it between the C of Constellation and the 7 marker. Wish mine was like TexOmega's!
