What would you ask Omega's CEO?

    Morning,

    We are interviewing Omega's global CEO for 45 mins tomorrow and wanted to see if there were any questions that you'd like asked? No guarantees that we'll be able to get to all of them...or that we get answers, but we'll do our best!

    The Speedmaster Pro is undoubtably the most legendary watch in Omega's production line, but since the introduction of Calibre 8500 and 9300 it has been relegated to being one of the cheaper or entry level watches in Omega's stable. Given that collectors pay crazy money for Calibre 321 powered vintage models is there any plan to move the Moonwatch back upmarket in Omega's lineup by giving it a better quality bracelet (such as the new Mark 2 style for example) and perhaps an applied logo dial or movement upgrade?

    There is a following of Omega enthusiasts that have supported the brand through thick and thin and have dedicated themselves to continuing the genuine Omega legacy by faithfully resurrecting , restoring and respecting the original works of art started by the Brandt's some 100+ years ago.

    Will you recognize the efforts of the common-man historians and curators of this great heritage and please support us with the information, technical support and bench parts necessary to insure Omega's place in history?

    Or will you chase a short-term profit and take a place next to all the others that are too soon forgotten?

    My sense is that Omega have been slow to get behind its vintage community, certainly compared to Heuer (which I know a lot better), who organise factory visits and dinners to TAG Heuer. The vintage Omega community would be a lot larger, so you'd think they'd have the sense to put a little bit back...

    Are the parts there, but just hard to get...or have they simply run out?

    Upon arriving at Omega for your very first time, when you first had the opportunity to tour the store room and museum vault, which single watch (reference and calibre) most captivated your attention, making you think that maybe, just maybe, you would wear it back up to your office for a time, and why?

    Well, there is a difference. Let me- again- use a Heuer example. TAG Heuer is running very low on genuine parts for the vintage watches and doesn't have the archive material to provide the sort of serial number matching service that some brands can. So they don't provide that back-up to collectors, because they can't.

    Do Omega have a cache of parts and information they're sitting on, or doesn't it exist?

    Doesn't matter if they have them currently or not - they can always manufacture old parts. They are a watchmaking company after all.


    I would ask why they put the caliber 2500 in watches sold to the public when it was obvious from the A, B, C, and D versions that it had not had the bugs worked out completely. Is a marketing "advantage" worth alienating even a handful of long time brand-loyal enthusiasts?

    I am Omega proud and a staunch supporter, but if it doesn't exist, it was by decision, not by some twerk of history.

    Why are you screwing qualified watchmakers and owners by restricting supply of parts thereby forcing them to submit to levels of repair and/or service costs that border on gouging the customer.

    1. Do you think that Omega Seamaster Master Co-Axial is too wordy?

    2. Where do you think Omega is heading with regards to its jewelry and accessories retail?

    3. Is Omega coming out with another line of watches? Since Seamaster/SpeedMaster/Deville/Constellation might not cater to everyone's tastes

    Can you ask about the state of Swatch group servicing in Australia? Are there any plans to improve it?

    Think this has kind of turned into a gripe sheet

    Woodworker asked some great questions, regarding the parts issue, that's a Swatch directive not an Omega one.

    Servicing in Australia is another Swatch group issue too unfortunately.

    Good point - not intended to be a gripe. I guess a reframing would be a question around Omega's approach to after sales service more broadly, and where Omega leaves off and the Swatch group picks up. I think it's a legitimate question as sometimes individuals can get lost in big bureaucracy shuffle, and as a consumer it'd be nice to know what the Omega line is.

    The parts supply is being cut off entirely (in December 2015) other than to watchmakers with official Omega accounts. Even they cannot get the parts for certain popular calibres and they cannot even be serviced in-country by official Omega service centres. These have to go back to Bienne to have their originality (from a collector's stand point) ruined.
