Just joking, kidding on the square as we used to call it. A funny lead-in to a true statement.
Omegaforums is huge, that is both good and bad.
What started out as a smaller collector's forum of serious watch nerds exchanging technical data, insight and observations, OF has grown and grown.
We now have collector's, acquirer's, brand fanboy's, dealers, social butterflies, trolls, car-boot enthusiasts, garage sale aficionados, Craig's list surfers, flippers, drive-by ebayers and every niece, nephew, grandson, granddaughter and estate sale shopper on the face of the Earth.
That is just the list of honest people.
Still, it's Omegaforums, not "old-fart collector watch-nerds forum" . What do we do?
The knowledge, expertise and advice that has led to this growth is being driven away by the complexity of the motives of the huddled, aforementioned masses.
Recently, I mentioned to a newer member that a post was repetitive, off-focus and perhaps cluttered the true meaning of the forum.
How was he to know?
I don't want to see the learned cadre split off or lose interest, or in my case (as an old-fart), give up trying to navigate.
How do we discriminate the "What watch goes best with gray hair" dude from the "Is the Chronomaddux list of movement dates more accurate than Omega's"?
"Does this strap make my ass look big" from the "Base 1000 vs. traditional bezel"?
I love the social generation but I am not part of it. It's not why I'm here. I'm here to collect watches.
Actually, I'm on holiday and have to be quiet while the Queen is resting!
When I get home this will all fade.
Can we coexist?
