I fell in love with the 1655 Rolex and when they announced the modern Orange Hand I went to go see it as soon as it came in. Well they say never meet your heroes. Or in this case the son of your hero. I did not like the modern execution and noticed the 3313 Orange PO next to it and was smitten some research and it was soon mine.

My first "luxury" watch is my Cartier Santos automatic. I bought it used for $1050. Had the metal bracelet removed and sold just the bracelet on ebay for $365. Then I had a watchmaker drill holes in the lugs so I could put a leather strap on it. To me the watch is now perfect and it's my general every day watch.

Yeah I did. I was worried it was fake cause I felt like the price I paid was a bit low and the auction seemed kinda weird. But it's real. I fell in love with the Santos when I was at the Cartier exhibit at the Denver art museum a couple years ago. They had an antique one from 1916 on display and I took some pictures of it and was happy when I checked ebay and found that they had re-issued it, except with a metal bracelet. The original had a black leather strip, so I converted mine to look like the one I had seen in the museum. I personally don't like metal bracelet.

My first luxury watch was a blue dialed Datejust. I was a knucklehead guy back then (1983) and had just closed a huge real estate deal. I wanted to be like all the other big boys. The commercial real estate market went in the tank and I ended up selling it. Oh well. Lessons learned.
