    Hi,

I'm looking to get my self a really nice watch (145.00.22 ST) for my upcoming birthday.
I have really fallen in love with the look of the speedmaster pro, and I want to find me a special one :)
The one I'm searching for should be from my birth year 1974.
How can I be sure that the watch is from -74 when/if I find one?

Can the cased back say (145.00.22 -69 ST) on a -74 model?
If I understand things correct the serial number for a -74 watch should be 32xxxxxxx?

This whole world of vintage Omegas seems to be more and more confusing the more I try to learn :)

If you have a look at this one, the case back is -69 and the serial is 32xxxxxxx, but the seller says that 32xxxxxxx falls well inline with a 69-70 model....

I'm a bit confused. What should I be looking for to find me a -74 Speedmaster Professional?

determining the age based on these factors is not an exact science. If having a 74 Speedmaster is absolutely critical, I would look for an example with an extract or records indicating it is from that year.

You can look at this link - http://www.chronomaddox.com/romans.html - which will give you speedmaster serial numbers by year. But bear in mind you can only get an exact date of when a watch left the factory by paying Omega for an extract of their archives.
Also watches are not like loaves of bread, they do not leave the factory the same day they are made. It may take some time before a watch was fully assembled and shipped from the factory, and the parts would have been sitting around before they were put together.
Speedies with the caseback shown in your link carry a price premium over regular casebacks. Personally I wonder if he has added this caseback to a later watch. The late great chuck maddox was a real vintage chronograph expert. You can go to his website and do your research, according to him the http://chronomaddox.com/moonwatch_casebacks.html the caseback in your link was only used up to 1971.

Thank you! I'm gonna educate myself i bit more on maddox's pages. There seems to be a lot of watches out there put together with parts from different specimens. Thats really what I'm afraid of ending up with. It would be nicer to have a genuine vintage moonwatch.
