ยทThe other day I went through my father's bag of watch bits. He was mainly an enthusiast for cheap, quartz and rubber band types, with the occasional leather band 'no-name' watch that he'd buy for me and my sister when we were kids. He always collected these when they broke and put them all into a bag.
So I was a bit shocked when I found this in there:
I started collecting watches at the beginning of the year, and had heard about GP a few times. Here was a pristine iteration...with the half of the band that had a clasp on it snapped off.
I asked my dad about this, since for about 20 years all he had worn was a Casio calculator watch.
"Well, your mum liked expensive things...always had, always will!" (They're divorced.)
I opened it up to have a look at it in it's full glory ๐
Swiss-made caseback with a service mark. Excellent! (rubs hands together)
I'm tempted to say that the movement looks similar to a Felsa 4162 (http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?11&ranfft&0&2uswk&Girard-Perregaux_67) or 4172 (http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?11&ranfft&0&2uswk&Girard-Perregaux_67_19) with GP's name on it, which, along with similar dials from that time (http://www.antiquewatchco.com/wrist...racelet-ladies-vintage-wrist-watch-wristwatch) would date the watch to the 1960s.
I gave it a wind and it keeps excellent time, so I'm wondering what to do with it...keep it as a desk clock maybe? I'm all ears to everyone's opinions and thoughts ๐
