For the semi-instantaneous date mechanism in the 8800 and similar calibers, the tolerance is +/- 10 minutes of midnight.

Cheers, Al

Correct but i have noticed that it doesnt change at the exact same time every day...Is this normal?

I just checked my cal 561 1962 Constellation and it changes the date at 1 min 5 sec after midnight.
That's one bad watch. I guess I should send it to Omega right away!

The mechanism has a spring loaded finger that pushes the date indicator past another spring loaded jumper. The fact that you are relying on two springs to act the same way every time, along with slight variations in the teeth of the date indicator wheel, means that some variation is possible. However I would not expect it to be a lot - couple of minutes maybe.

If the variation bothers you, try setting the hand top a safe time (6:30 is always good) and pull the crown out to the rapid date advance position (position 2). Then run the date wheel around the full 31 days a couple of times - if the lubrication on the teeth was not evenly distributed this will do that, and it may improve the consistency of the date change.

Cheers, Al

Thanks for the great explanation!

Difference i have noticed in date changing vary from seconds to 1-2 minutes... I am presuming this is normal and nothing to worry about!

I guess even if i don't to the date wheel rotation it will eventually even its self right?

I saw the title and thought Oh No!
Not another "my watch changes date at midday instead of at midnight! Should I take it to a watchmaker?".

I kid you not, it was on this forum somewhere.

is that a costly repair? 😜

Seamaster 300m cal. 8800 here: date changed at 00:00’:00” 😎

my wild party nights are less frequent these days...most of the time I find myself Zzzzz at mid night 😁

"Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so."

IME getting up late helps.

8800 gray seamaster. Mine changed today around 1157ish I didn’t watch it flip. The other day I was running through the time and watched it flip early so I watched today. Not sure if it’s consistent. Also not sure if letting it run to 1200 effect Differently than manually changing time.

I don’t think it’s bad to change date by running your hands through. Please tell me if this is bad. Since feb 29 is coming up I will running it through to the 1st and see what the date jump time is and if it’s the same.

Can you please refer us to a place showing the tolerance limit?

Simply refer to what Archer posted. He's an Omega certified watch maker.
