put the trash out late thursday for friday pick up. came home from work friday afternoon to find the contents of the can piled on the lawn and the can, which was badly cracked and in need of replacement, stolen. ???

the guy next door suggested they were after personal information. But they left the trash and took the can? and the paper waste, where you might find out what my monthly motorbike parts bills are, goes out in a different container, which they left. maybe some local junkie is smoking the refuse from my espresso machine. seriously weird.
Same thing happened to me a few years back but they took the trash with them... All they got was yard waste.
Where I live, it's seagulls that raid the rubbish that's been put out for the binman to collect next day. It's strewn across the entire street come morning. Don't usually take the can with them, but perhaps they've branched out?
Okay I'll fess up - had a meeting with some locals this week on the back deck, and a plan was hatched...
My trash bin was stolen too, a few years ago. It had wheels on it, so some youngsters decided to do some racing with it. When we got out in the morning, to go to work, our trash was spread all along the street. Nice start of that day, having to clean the street from all of our garbage.....
