Beat up. Stretched out bracelet. And that is clearly not the original quartz movement. Correct me if I am wrong.

One could always snag this and put a proper movement inside of it. I'm thinking this has suffered some moisture damage.

That dial looks like the full sized, not the mid. The description lists the watch as mid-sized.

I had called out an omega, with a similar movement, as a fake a short while ago and was told these early Omega quartz looked like this. So this could be the original/correct movement for this. I agree, looks like ::censored:: to me too!

Early examples with those hands should have the T/C 1441 movement, which that certainly isn't.
It is the full size version btw. 2014-08-23 14.37.43.jpg

    Omega Cal 1438 (ETA 255.461).

It's not unusual to see an ETA replacement , irrepairable movements (caused by a battery leak or other damage) were often the most effective/cost efficient fix.

    That's a 1438? Normally a 1438 would be branded as such, yes?

The 1438 should be marked as such. Omega_1438_c.jpg

Bingo. That piece is essentially a frankenwatch. Proper case, dial, hands, bracelet, but not the correct movement.

What would a replacement movement cost?

Movement gets wet. Hands corrode. Dials get spots. I get a lot of watches like this. Mostly Tag Heuer and Seiko. The biggest problem with this watch is that it is located in Mexico. Yikes.

Like I said, the movement may have been replaced, the movement isn't stamped Omega, but it is exactly what Omega used, i.e. an ETA quartz "ebauch".

An ETA 255.461 is OK for this watch. After all, it's not collector grade and is probably quite OK if the price stays down.

Omega Vintage Database points in that direction.

I'm thinking of it as a beater. I would have it serviced (cleaned, new gaskets, crown) so that it was water resistant. Wouldn't care about scratches on the case or bracelet. I really love the comfort of these and in a few years I'd hand it over to my niece (she is still too young to have such a watch). Not sure how high I should go in bidding. I absolutely would replace the hands and that adds $50 to $60.

A great beater. Maybe just need to clean the goo off the hands and re-lume.

I guess it's a risk. The Pre Bond is special to me. I just love how it feels on the wrist and would love one for daily wear. The greater the worm look, the greater the character. As long as it's water resistant to or near the 200m specs I'd be happy.

No point me trying to sell you a NOS full size auto that doesn't look like a worm then.

That watch could be made waterproof again . There is no corrosion . New o-rings on the case and in the crown tube . Maybe a new seal for the crystal . Not more than $20

New case tube is $10, new crown would be $41, new case back gasket is $7 - these would be the minimum I would suggest to make sure it is water resistant.

Cal. 1438 is discontinued, so if you wanted an original Omega movement, you would have to find a donor. Note that new circuits are also not available for this movement, so you would need to be sure the donor has a good circuit. But as Jim has pointed out, the ETA is the same movement, just not branded Omega.

    Cheers, Al

Uh... You need to PM me right now. :)

Thanks for the input, guys. I know I might seem Pre-Bond obsessed, but I can't help my love for this incarnation of the Seamaster Pro. At a bare minimum I know I will be spending $200 to have it cleaned and made water resistant. So I have to factor that into everything.

I can buy a really cool, brand new Steinhart running an ETA movement for $350 and it's be a terrific daily wearer, but I'd rather spend a bit more and have an Omega.

Yep, a few dive watches in the 80's and probably into the 90's.
