    Hey ya'll,

Im a newbie to Omega, but have always loved them! I just pick up my first, and Im finding that its a pretty rare ans valuable find. However, if you see the picture, the crystal is very scratched.

    Im wondering a few things:
    1. Can the scratches be fixed, and what should that cost?
    2. I dont want to devalue the watch in any way, so what should I NOT do to it (ie polish it, service it, etc)
    3. My wife really wants the silver and turquoise cuff, so I will need to get a new strap for it. What type of strap would be the most original to the watch?

Anything anyone else can tell me about the watch would be appreciated......value, where to get serviced, how mich servicing should cost?????

    Thank you

Welcome. As I also am a really newcomer to watches and collecting, I will recommend searching the vintage omega threads for some helpful advice and research about what to look for and what to avoid in vintage watches. As to the watch above, I admit I've not seen a dial like that on a railmaster before but truly more photos in better lighting, in particular of the movement and caseback would help others to help you.

There's a thread somewhere in the vintage Omega board that has that dial. I would recommend a site search.

The watch posted by the OP is likely a ref 165.002, probably from the mid 1960's. We would need clearer pictures of the dial, as it might be refinished.

    First things first...

That watch raises more questions then anything that can be answered from that picture.

We need to see the inside of the caseback and clear shots of the movement.

If you cannot easily remove it have a qualified watch maker do it, not just a battery replacement shop. Once we have that info we can try and tell you exactly what you have.

As for a strap.. a simple black leather with 2 white stitches would look great on that. Similar to this.

Any reputable jeweler that does Watch repair. Anyone listed as Rolex certified etc. does not have to be Omega certified. To open it.

Once you know what you have you can make some choices on what to do. Is it worth getting serviced etc.

    I am in Austin.
C'mon by. We'll polish the crystal and take a look inside and see what you have. :)

Do you guys have a recommendation for someone that does watch service in North Carolina? I have the same model watch that I would like to get serviced up.. but the only local dealer in Winston-Salem wants $1000. Maybe that is normal?

Sorry I don't have a recommendation, but $1000 for a simple time only automatic is crazy.

It is a mechanical so I expect to pay a good amount.. but not that much. If there are any good services by mail, I would also consider...
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Looks like your second hand is missing its counter weight / tail.
