Only a paul newman daytona of course....to get rid of a speedy would need to be quite the rolex...
in all honesty if i had several speedys and this one is on the chopping box , I would do a birth year 5513 in very good condition
(1979) these run about 8-10K

in my opinion a premoon speedmaster (especially CB) is twice the watch, and much rarer (in most cases) 😉 but its all preference when it comes down to it

I would keep it if it were my only Speedy... but if I had two, I would try to parlay it into a ref. 6610 Explorer. Because what's not to like about a ref. 6610 Explorer?

Then a again I would have to have an awesome collection of speeds to have a cb on the chopping block

GMT 1675 is within that range. But I'd go for Explorer II 1655 and a few thousand more.

A 1655 is more then a few grand more. Unless a -66 has suddenly jumped in price.

1675?
Enjoy mine most next to my Ed white. But if I were you I would not trade but just save to buy it and keep the speedy.

I wouldn't trade a vintage Rolex...Especially if you have a sports model in good condition. And I would especially NOT trade for an average condition Speedmaster. Why buy average? Be patient and get a prime example, its going to be well worth your while.

Cheers,

Quick question, Spacefruit just sold this reference for $7,200 or thereabouts, and I believe his was, and I could be wrong, a very good, serviced example. So that would probably put the value on the OP's in the $6500-6750 neighborhood--am I correct in that assessment?

Given I have not been following the vintage Rolex market as closely as Omega, but is seems like the better examples of 5513s and GMTs are in the $7.5K+ range, with many seeming to creep towards the $9-10k mark.

If the OP can find someone to trade straight up for a great example 5513 or 1675, I think that would be a strong trade for the OP, and not necessarily for the Rolex owner.

I agree with @emilio, keep the Speedy and save for a vtg Rolex. If you ended up with a two watch collection consisting of your 105.012 and a 5513 or 1675, you would have in an enviable spot!
