Owner doesn't know a thing about watches, can't open it, says it's mechanical... Can't tell if it's a vintage piece or not. It seems to be one of the newer (10-20? years) models..

EDIT: Movement is cal 285... anything ?

Here is some info of Longines cal. 285.

It seems that movement is from 70's and judging by the design of the watch I would also place it to the 70's. On the picture it looks like it has golden top. It probably is gold plated (again typical for 70's) and that is the least appreciated case material / coating version as if it scratches it will be beyond repair/ polish.

    So one post you
    think it's from the 70s,
    think it's gold platesd
and think it's the least appreciated case material.

Do you think within one post of someone asking for advice you need to run the case material down so quickly..

The caliber 280 was introduced in 1958. It was Longines first manual wind with direct drive center seconds. (280 = no-date / 281 =- date) In the mid 60's, Longines made several modifications, which changed the 280 to the 284 and the 281 to the 285. The watch might date as early as 1965, and could be as late as the early 90's.

Got any shots of the movement or inside of the caseback?

I can not remember 100% but I think in the original post (not edited) was a question regarding the value.
Btw. if you can run the value of the watch, state of the movement, condition of the back case or anything else from that one picture please do so. I wrote about the case because it is most visible on the picture.

And do you disagree with my views of the guesses on the particular watch and gold plated cases in general or you just find my post somehow offending?

That would mean I'd have to share a link to my ebay account, where the watch is now listed (hint hint) but that is against the rule.

    I'll just say this: 1973 Longines cal. 285 17 Rubis Manual-Wind Gold Plated :)

Here it is, resting... for now.
