I have been wanting to buy a Speedmaster for awhile now.
I just saw a Speedmaster 3513.30 for sale.
It's in perfect shape, no box or papers. The shop wants $1800 out the door.
Does anyone know if this is a good price?
Does anyone know anything about this 'reduced' Speedmaster.
I would appreciate any info your guys could give.

I love it. Very original. Never seen anything like it. Framed Date window, pancake dial, metal bezel, white....I'm not an expert so I'm assuming it's authentic. I would say as a a single speedy to own it's a non speedy speedy, as a watch is beautiful, as a second speedy I would love to have it.

I had one and let it fly pretty soon after getting a speedmaster pro - it didn't have anywhere near as much of a quality feel to it. It bugged me the way you could really feel the rotor whirling around inside. It was quite hard to read too, a bit too much silver going on. I was wearing it on the subway once though and a bloke with a Daytona said how nice it looked and asked what it was.

You won't get a lot of love on this site for it, even being an Omega forum. I have two of them, both black and have been thinking of selling one, but my kids will have to sell the other one because I love the look. Traveler is right, you can feel the rotor when you move, but I like that too. It should have a Valjoux movement.

The price is high, you should be able find these on Watchrecon for $1,500 to $1,000 all day long. Without box and papers closer to the $1,000 side. Keep in mind coming from a brick and mortar store, they have overhead to cover so $1,800 might not be a bad price. Plus you can touch it and get a better idea for the feel of the watch. If they can prove it has been recently serviced, that makes the price better.

Good luck! Mine is one of my favorite watches, which is why I bought the second.

They're a decent watch and being 7750 powered are reliable and accurate with reasonable servicing costs. I'd take these over a reduced any day as an automatic Speedmaster

I think I like that I can feel the rotor. It's a reminder of its mechanical movement.

Keep an eye on that eBay listing to get an idea of price. I think $1800 is a little high. I see these sell for anywhere from $1000 - $1300 all the time, and if properly serviced (with a warranty to back that up) it might be worth up to $1500 or maybe $1600.

Thanks ulackfocus. They are providing a 2 year warrenty, and it has been serviced. Maybe I'll see if they will take 1500, but no more.

Please ask for proof of service, or budget to get it serviced.

    Cheers, Al

I think $1800 is high as well and you should be able to get the price down a bit. Otherwise, if the piece sings to you then have at it. Interesting and uncommon color as well as dial detail, and the movement is ubiquitous enough that service shouldn't be an arm and a leg.

I'm with the crowd that $1800 is high... i've watched the triple date models of these closely for the last year, its strange, prices seem to rise and fall just like the stock market. I got a bug up my butt to get a blue dial version of this watch, so I took a shot at a couple auctions, one was a real minty example with B&P, I shut down at around $1700, watch went for $2200  Well, 4 months later, and sellers pushing the same blue dial examples couldn't give them away for $1600. At the time somebody with more knowledge than me told me not to bid more than $1500 for a good example and to be patient... I didn't listen but thankfully didn't win any of my higher bids, and after that I lost interest and started chasing other things. I'll pass this advice through... no more than $1500 for this model seems like good advice if you are price sensitive.. if not, buy what you like and enjoy ::psy::

They're called the Speedmaster MK40 (the triple date) and I think they're just superb for the money. Little known trivia fact, Ben's grandfather giving him a Speedmaster MK40 (The rainbow colour model) is the reason he got into watches and started Hodinkee and he still has and wears the watch from time to time to this day.
