Finally! I am not alone in the world to think that, Thank you so much.

His watches are pieces of flat steel stock with a hole drilled in it, put in a movement and cap it of with slotted hex bolt in a hexagonal hole! My inner (and outer) mechanic has no word for this..........practise(?). It simply does not compute.

Thanks for letting me went without fear of torches and pitchforks.

I’d take an Oysterquartz over a RO all day.

What would you say is your least popular watch opinion?

Two I regularly get yelled at for. First, that there is nothing wrong with refinishing a case and bracelet if that's what you want to do with your watch. Second, that factory service is always an option, and sometimes the best option.

In my case, my watchmaker is Rolex-trained in case finishing and he knows damn well when it's time to stop. He has also let me hand-polish gold cases while he services the movement. So I am not afraid to ask for a little case work, especially to fix someone else's mistakes.

I hate:
1) counterfeits
2) skeletonized/dial-less watches
3) those grossly oversized Invictas

But in all seriousness, my strongest love/hate relationship is with the Bulova Precisionist. Amazing quartz technology stuffed into a grossly industrial and heavy case (stainless steel version - weighs a pound). Then overly stuffed with complications and an extra large date window that displays 3 days at a time, yet is still hard to read. Top it off with colored hands.

On the other extreme, the non-marine stars are tackily diamond-studded. Such a waste of potential for that movement.

Here's mine - one of the originals that still had a clean look. I had transplanted into the titanium case.

I'm not sure that it will be controversial here, but I have been away from watches for a decade or so and am recently getting back into things, but the whole social media/Youtube watch channels of grey market dealers makes my skin crawl. Just awful.

I also think the 70's large full flow style cases and bracelets are just awesome.

I find the Rolex Daytona unattractive. Have never understood why people want to pay upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the old ones, and $30k for a new one.
I’m completely with you here. The earlier ones can be nice though, but anything with those fat hour markers that look like they’ve been overinflated is plain fugly.

I mostly keep unpopular opinions to myself except for the following. My most unpopular watch opinion is that watches nowadays are mostly expensive and superfluous pieces of jewelery, which most people in humanity cannot afford, and that many watches discussed here can fund a rural elementary school in Kenya for 300 kids for about 8 years (or much more). (That’s true BTW as I’ve seen the accounting books of one and that has marked me for life).

I completely measure how sanctimonious and holier-than-thou it may sound, people may resent being reminded of our/ their privilege, but for me at least it’s important to keep things in perspective.

That being said I enjoy watches for their historic, technical and aesthetic aspects, and feel lucky I was able to purchase a few. Thanks to all for indulging my occasional lecture.
