Yes, the MoonSwatch is old news by now, and the dead horse has officially been beaten well into nirvana. And one can consider the MoonSwatch a cash cow, with Swatch having sold considerably more than a million pieces to date. After all, the Swatch Group confirmed to have crossed that milestone almost six months ago. […]

There does not need to be an endgame per se. The MoonSwatch has been a spectacularly successful diversification by the Swatch Group afaik. It's shifted a lot of units (presumably at a reasonable profit) and raised the profile of both Swatch and Omega. Despite the naysayers and the disdain of some self-proclaimed guardians of Speedmaster purity, this has worked probably better than Swatch/Omega hoped.

Good on them - they took a chance and it came off 👍

If they stick with a plastic version Swatch Speedmaster and come out with different versions every six months or so it would follow past Swatch campaigns, but that gets pretty stale pretty quickly (see Swatch mania in the early 90's). If they start having Speedmaster labled Hamiltons, Midos or Certinas in steel cases at the CHF 1200 to 1500 level with the idea that these will be feeder Speedmasters until you get to the real deal that's another issue. But they'll do what they'll do.

So it's a "dead horse" but we need yet another article about it? 🤨

Swatch need to discontinue them soon (and bring out something else) to ensure that the Moonswatch’s kudos value stands the test of time. If not, interest in them will disappear as quickly as Tottenham’s Premier League title chances next season!🙄

As long as the punters keep buying them, they’ll keep making them

Not too sure what I was just called, but, pretty sure it wasn't a good thing.

A punter is slang for a customer, it’s usually used by salespeople, it’s also slang for a gambler, which is why the sales types use it.
Youse pays ya money and youse takes ya chances.

It’s in communication usage in Australia, the UK and New Zealand

Regardless of what some people would call a Moonswatch buyer (I am one of those buyers too); there's still plenty of them judging by the continuous lack of supply at our local Swatch store. Walked in last week Saturday, found four Moonswatches (2 x Moon, 1 x Mercury, 1 x Mars) on the counter and four people in front of me in the queue. Gist of the story; I walked out empty handed...

This has been a master class in marketing from Omega. The power of this marketing will last a long time. My young nephew has the watch ‘Pluto’ he aspires when working to purchase his Dad’s version. This marketing genius will stand the test of time and Omega and Swatch will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Honestly, punter is in very common usage in the UK to mean customer. I refer to my clients as punters all the time, and no-one's taken offence so far (although maybe they're too horny to notice).

Agreed. It was a brilliant marketing move. Not sure how much longer the demand for the Moonswatch will last -- although if you check eBay it certainly hasn't run out of steam yet -- but if the intent was to raise Omega's profile among potential buyers, it worked and then some.

It’s a common term here in Australia and definitely not offensive. Client implies a deeper and more significant relationship, punter is more just a person off the street who walks in and makes a purchase, they don’t know if it will be a good or bad purchase, they just like it and so they take a chance. .

They need a 321 powered MoonSwatch.

Combining those two marketing gimmicks would be the ultimate troll.

I tried taking a punt on a MoonSwatch but gave up in the end. So no punter here 😉
