There are watch collectors.... toy train collectors.... car collectors... stamp collectors...

I was watching a documentary and learned of a guy who had collected thousands of Chinese take-out menus.

What's the weirdest thing you've seen collected?

Not exactly peculiar, esp. not in these parts, but more in the futile category, this guy "Paul White" set out to collect one of every type of chronograph ever made. Sisyphus had it easy in comparison.
He never succeeded, but documented his impressively uneven and indiscriminate collection here:

Most of it went under the hammer last year I think....

Two unusual collectibles, actually. Ran into a guy in England who collected tower clocks! Twelve in his living room, and six scattered about the house. Another odd collectible? Cider presses, including a ten ton one which was too big for the house! Tower clocks and cider presses both collected by the same guy! Would the word be eclectic or (to coin a word) ecollectic tastes? Violins? (me!)

We've discussed barbed wire before. I was seriously tempted to buy a sampler pack just to have an example of the strangest collectable I had heard of. That is until this thread.

I once read of a guy who collected string! He tied the bits of string together amassing a gigantic ball of string! I tried to Google "string collection" and struck out! But it was interesting to peruse what showed up instead of pictures of a gigantic ball of string! (Ahem!)

Not to be deterred, I went back to Google Images and typed in "big ball of string". Try that for a look at an unusual collectible!
