Hi all,
I used to keep my watches in drawer of my cupboard. Most of my watches before are beaters, so no concern there.

But since I begin collecting Omega, especially vintage ones, now I put them in a closed metal watch bag case which covered by synthetic velvet inside. Then I put the bag inside cupboard.

Yesterday I have discussion with a fellow local collector which advise me to use a special compartment with humidity control (usually for camera/ photography equipment use) and set at 40% level.

I wonder what is a decent and true tested method to keep watches in good condition.

In tropical country humidity usually very high. My room is kept with air conditioner 50% of the time. Temperature is not that bad (23 - 32 Celcius not too high...at least for me ).

Should I buy this special compartment OR adding silica gel sachets inside my existing case should be enough?

One more concern.........there is security issue. If I put it in a bag case, putting it in a locked cup board is easy.
However if I use controlled humidity compartment, either I expose it openly in my room or I should modify my locked cupboard to be able to contain it inside.

 

Point taken......... Well I have to talk to my wife to share her Safe Deposit Box with me..........

Anyway should we put silica gel or anything inside SDB or the SDB room usually already humid controlled?

 

I have custom made hard plastic cases, similar to Pelican but done up by Doug at Custom Cases to house a dozen watches.




I also put each watch in a little soft cloth pouch. Stored with desiccant packets on each level.




My winder keeps the handful of watches I've wearing organized - 4 heads + 2 extra cushions, and a 5 slot drawer.

 

Find a bit of space, and this wouldn't look to bad.
Maybe have to flip a few watches to pay for it !.

I like the watch cases at Acetimer - http://www.acetimer.com/Watch-Cases/ - I have a 24 watch case I really like but it looks like he's not selling it anymore. Prices have been better on the site rather than on eBay where he sells also. Good customer service too.

And I just noticed an enormous 60 watch case that must be new!

 

I'll pass. It seems I can get a platinum skeletonized Omega for that compartment . I'll get a dog and big baseball stick as bonus to guard it.

 

Lous, mine is similar with this case. It's combination of aluminium and hard plastic. the size is bigger, it can hold up to 20 watches.

 

Dennis, thank's very much........... Using soft cloth pouch + silica gel at each pouch IMO is a great solution.
Since Jakarta is a humid country, I'll add a small hygrometer inside the bag to make sure I can check humidity at acceptable range. If this solution does not work then I will consider dry box/compartment.
