If you can have one, and only one, solid gold vintage dress watch, what would it be? For me, it has to be a vintage gold IWC. The watch that I will wear to my closest people's weddings, the watch that I will be carrying when i'm attending a quaint little jazz bar when I have alone time for myself, and the one that i will spend the most special moments with. Most collectors have a variety of watches; divers, panda face chronographs..vintage Japanese/Russian models and the usual vintage Omega/Longines with interesting dials and sub dials. But I want a solid gold, dressy watch that is plain and simple in terms of design, as the one watch that i will turn to, as that vintage gold watch.
An omega tc1 in yellow gold. There are only 6 known examples in existence. here is my gold plated version, which is pretty funky in my opinion.( might not be a dress watch for some people but I would wear it with a suit, so it counts for me)
I love my Constellations And as a ‘proper’ gold dress watch it would have to be this one. 18k no date 14381 gold dial But if I had to choose it would be the pink18k 2872 I’m wearing today that managed to find its way onto @chunkythebulldog ’s wrist earlier It may be a Chrono but it doesn’t get more dressier than this IMHO
I think this was sitting in a drawer, unloved and unlugged (if that's a word), for a good few decades. I'm going to give it a second lease of life and it's currently with Adam at WatchCaseWorks to be relugged (if that's a word). I think they're nicer without a date, but it's still a bit of a looker.
Tough question! This IWC arrived today. Poor photo, colour doesn't translate. Need natural light. I'll post up better photos. If only one it would be a rose gold deluxe, with stepped dial on a flat link. Of the watches I own at the moment its a tough choice between my rose gold grand luxe and ultima. Up the grand luxe wins as I prefer rose gold.
This is mine, having only recently arrived but will be one of my few never-to-be-flippers to be worn on all such occasions. Will soon be heading off to STS for a case refinish and then treated to a nice strap, hopefully in time for Christmas(might be a push but would be nice).
Perhaps not strictly speaking a dress watch, but this beefy Eterna Kontiki 20 is the only solid gold three hander I’ll ever need. At 37mm (measured without the screw-down crown) this is a pretty substantial watch for a 1960s model. I think the caseback looks nice, too, with a relatively crisp Kontiki raft medallion.
I'm really happy and already satisfied with the 3 hand 18k RG I currently have and use for formal wear. Not sure I could do much better...
