What if the next moon watch is an Apple Watch??

With the crew of Inspiration4 all wearing Apple Watches and that mission being the first manned mission to fly higher than the ISS and Hubble - in fact higher than any mission since STS 103 in 1999 (i.e really high, not some low earth orbit flight).

Additionally, SpaceX have been awarded the Artemis mission to land on the moon… does that mean that the next actual moon watch might be an Apple Watch.. and what does that mean for Omega?

Does it really matter? There have been other watches on the Moon but the Speedmaster will always be the first one.

It won’t survive on the moon at all, the conditions just aren’t conducive to lithium batteries, OLED displays or the circuitry involved, inside a pressurised capsule sure but the moonwatch isn’t cool for being inside the capsule, it’s cool for being on astronauts wrists during EVA

Apple's website says the Apple Watch battery lasts 18 hours... what happens if they get to the moon and forgot the charging cable?

Or worse, only one astronaut remembered to bring theirs, and they spend the entire trip squabbling over who gets to charge their Apple Watch next?

Even worse, what if Apple issues a software update during the mission and no one has access to WIFI? 😲

It’s ok, Jeff Bezos can just have new updated watches delivered to them within the hour- hand delivered by Elon Musk

No one cares about who won the bronze

( maybe they do now with all this everyone gets a ribbon stuff that goes on. Probably be a Aluminium medal soon )

Or maybe a paper one, that’s says, “I was there” or “I lost, but feel so good about it”

I was just talking about this with my wife the other day. When she was in high school, she had to do the Presidential fitness tests, and being very much an indoor girl, she failed- yet still received an award for “participation”. She was very confused- why was she being awarded for something she failed.

Hopefully it means they knock off the stupid moonwatch nonsense and let the Speedmaster stand on its own merit.

When I was growing up 60's-70's There was only 1st,2nd & 3rd, 1st meant you won, 2nd was the best of the losers, 3rd was you just managed to beat the rest. Taught us if you want the big trophy be prepared to put in the practice, sweat and yes sometimes tears.

I’m about a decade after you, 70’s-80’s, and it was much the same. I played varsity baseball, but I was an outfielder and not a starter, I spent a lot of time on the bench. I had a great long throw (could hit home plate accurately from outfield without a cut-off) but my batting game sucked. I felt lucky to be able to play, I didn’t have any umbrage about not being first string…I wasn’t good enough.
