What if Speedmasters are no more than ‘57 Chevys; within one generation they’ll be worthless?

intresting thought, but I just don’t see that happening.

My 24 year old would kill for a 57 Chevy and has assigned dibs to half my collection. Just saying.

It’s because having a pocket watch was inconveinent once wristwatches were made popular. How annoying it is to drive or be in a meeting and having to reach into a pocket to tell time. They are a thing of beauty but not practical for today’s bustling world. Unfortunatelt many once beautiful items have lost out to new developments although rare and unique pocket watches still command a high bid.

Watches are jewelry that tells the time. Egyptians wore jewelry
We got nothing to worry about.😉

Dinosaurs lived millions of years back and provided food for what ever was hunting them. And they still provide bones for Standy's dog.
Watches have a few years to go yet.

She picked that up on the beach and ran the gauntlet with 20-30 other dogs for a Kilometre or more and sat in the front seat of the ute with it like that the whole way home.

She loves the beach 😉

I read a piece in my newspaper (The Times, and it was actually paper 😲) yesterday that not only do younglings no longer use wrist watches to tell the time, but they don't even know how to read the time on an analogue display. The are only able to understand a digital time display on their 'smart watches' or mobile telephones... 🤦

You can’t appreciate the guts or build of an Applewatch.

Whaddaya mean? Everytime I take my usual stroll along the land-fills and garbage heaps there are always plenty of Applewatch guts to be appreciated...and the builds...fantastic! Lasted all of 4 years!

I don't know if they would come crashing but some point they'll stabilize... between forum discussions, sites like HODINKEE, and then Instagram, I don't think the interest will ever die down completely.

I don't care how much à Speedmaster costs, I want one. If they become more expensive, I'll buy less, and if their price goes to shit, I'll buy more.
I was born in 1991 and own 7 vintage Speedmasters: my dad is pretty passionate about watches so I got the bug from here. If people are exposed to it, they're going to like watches. If they're not, they wont

Grrrrrr....😡 They'll have to go and have some trauma counselling and then be compensated for post traumatic stress!😡 D'ya know mate?... We have raised a whole generation of anxiety victims! God help us if the Nazis ever comeback for another punch up! They'll all be going "Oooh dear.... he's got a machine gun!.... he's not showing me 'unconditional positive regard'!...... oooh I'm very offended! Where's my counsellor? I need a bit of Cognitive behaviour therapy!
(I love being a grumpy old bugger!😁)

Eric Clapton had one of the world's great Patek collections...ed sheerhan now rocks a patek... Jerry seinfeld has a ridiculous watch collection (vintage)..aziz Ansari collects vintage rolex.

I'm not saying tastes won't change and 30s/40s definitely not where it's at vs 60s but I think we're ok for another generation at least

And after that who really cares?

I don't know if I agree with this.
I am what would be considered a millennial, and I think a lot of others my age are still into watches.
I think it would be, perhaps, the generation who grew up with cell phones in their pocket to check the time, that would be the ones not interested.
As a kid, I grew up wearing watches and that has never changed
So I COULD see that generation not seeing the need for a watch, but I bet there will still be some who have an interest.

Not sure if this is a good example or not since I don't know much about it but what about vinyl?
Once cassette tapes and CD's came out no one wanted to mess with records anymore...right?
There were probably some die-hard fans that kept everything they had but the general public made the shift.
But it seems like now, vinyl is coming back in a big way.
People my age who weren't even listening to music on vinyl when it was a thing are now spending thousands of dollars on equipment.
So does that mean that watches will experience a similar resurgence in the future? Maybe...maybe not...but I think it is a definite possibility.
I think everything goes through cycles, and while maybe the want (or necessity) of a wrist watch may go down, I think it will eventually go back up.

Now if only the air-cooled 911 bubble would burst.....
