... to make a guy look at a Rolex on his wrist with disdain? Glad you asked! It takes nothing more than a nasty Speedmaster addiction. My Speedy has been in the shop for a bezel replacement and I've gone to my former grail watch, a Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi, as my backup. Still a wonderful watch, but I do so miss the Speedmaster Co-Axial Moonwatch I recently acquired. I suppose getting it back will be all the sweeter for missing it, but dang! Speedmaster love is a powerful thing!

That much love for immaterial objects can get you arrested...and/or looked at strangely...Even if I agree ;)

Yup - I don't normally get so attached to watches. I'm pragmatic about most things. While it's a beautiful design, my Speedmaster is first and foremost a tool. But this big beautiful Speedmaster struck a chord in me. Maybe it's the newness of it. Maybe it's the storied history - I have been watching a lot of Moon and Mars stuff lately. Apollo 18, 13, and Mars in NatGeo.

I considered not getting it fixed because the bezel dent didn't effect the function at all. But the insanely cheap price I paid for it justified spending a couple hundred dollars to make it perfect again. My schedule lately has been hectic so I look at my watch a lot during the day. Why not look at a piece of art so long as that artwork performs?

If you are looking at a watch with disdain you should sell it.

It's only comparative disdain. I still like it, but it's not the bee's knees for me anymore. I would look at any watch the same way if it isn't a Speedmaster.

This is veering towards fetishism.......and not in a good way.

Oh, I've veered all right. In fact I came hard to starboard and steamed full power smack into the realm of obsession.

Like all new relationships (to people, things, places, occupations, etc.), there is frequently a wonderful honeymoon period. It almost always fades with time. So I say, if someone is in the middle of it, let's not rain on the parade. It won't last forever...

As Maganator said, maybe you should sell that GMT Master II to someone who will really love it :whistling:

An interesting thing happened during the 2 weeks I was without Speedy1. I rediscovered my love of the GMT2 Pepsi. They will both get wrist time going forward, with an edge to the Speedmaster. Peace has been restored to my watch drawer. I'm going to need a single or double watch winder though.

I have an empty spot in my watch winder. Send the GMT Master and I'll see that it stays wound :whistling:

If I obsess over any watch in my collection, I don't know which one it might be. My Speedmasters? Probably not. Put it down to being obsessed of the watch I happen to be wearing at any given time.
