What do you think? [Seamaster 600 technical white dial]

It seems to be the current state of the market, at least where I am (Europe). Haven't found many Vintage Omega watches that are much cheaper, as of yet. Which does make me curious.

@vlaspri, @ConElPueblo, how much would you think a watch like this should be worth? And why? Would love to hear your opinions on this!

I think part of the attraction to these is that black dialled Seamasters in general are not that common, coupled with the red cross hair and logo it makes the black ones quite sought after. I've sold a couple in the past and every time I get several messages afterwards asking for dibs in case the sale falls trough or if I can help someone get one.

The white dialled ones should carry less of a premium imo.

Indeed. Also, it seems that many of the black dialed seamasters out there are redials (and often quite bad redials) which of course pushes prices for the genuine examples higher.

Exactly. A huge amount of standard 'dress' Seamasters are redials which still sell for silly money in some instances (especially the 'Don Draper' DeVilles). If you couple this with the current fashion for 'sportier' models, it's easy to see why the market for these technic dials is so strong.

Well, to me personally there isn't any value in these - I realise that the market says otherwise 👍

To me the case shape and construction is underwhelming; slab-sided design with stunted lugs and few details. The movement is a pedestrian (good, but uninteresting) manual winding item and the feel of the watch is fairly low-cost. Wears small as well - one of the only watches I have had which I use this rather cliché term.

Half the money for a standard one of these would buy you a top specimen of a much more characterful Tissot, Certina or Mido.

The infatuation with technical dials is lost on me as the basic item remains unchanged.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! Sounds like a fair assesment. I'll have a look into the brands you've mentioned.

I see your points but beg to differ. This is of course a matter of personal taste. For me the Seamaster 600 is a great watch that is dressy without being too formal. Thus, it can be worn everyday but can also be dressed up for a more special occasion and suits the minimalist wardrobe of Scandinavia well (at least the wardrobe that I have). The cal. 601 is a work horse, is easy to service and parts are abundant. I am, however, a bit partial as I have one I wear almost every day.

Well, I think the max price is around 300$. This pricing is pretty strange, but really surprising me in the best way because I have Seamaster 600 136.012 with tropical guilloche textured dial, looks very uncommon and awesome. So if I’m going to sell it in future - wow, rain of cash!

It also depends on where you sell it. Prices in Europe (especially the northern parts) seem higher than for example in the US.

Fair enough, thanks for your 2 cents! And color me intrigued for that tropical guilloche dial. But if you ever sell it I will hunt down this comment to remind you of that max price 😉

Regardless of whether people think these Seamaster 600's are worth the premium in black/technic/guilloche dial guise, no half way decent example with even a basic silver dial will sell in open auction for $300 (£220) in the UK anymore.

Well, if you must have an Omega, then I agree. All of the above points could equally well be made for a number of other watches; to me the Omega logo just isn't worth it - I don't see what you get apart from the "Seamaster" name. I recently bought a lot of three watches (a Tissot, a Certina and a third with a non-brand name) where all three watches could be said having these properties - €150 all in.

I owned a Seamaster 600 for a year or so and traded it away. To me it is probably the least interesting "collectable" post-war Omega.

Just checked watchrecon and the first Seamaster 600 listed is the one with black technic dial - for sale on Reddit for $2,000. God! This is the next Speedmaster Professional, gentlemens!

Well, I decided to go for it. First Omega, first vintage watch! Thanks everyone for all the advice!
