what do you think of this vintage seamaster

Careful though: There's a huge gap between the endlinks and the lugs. If that's a case with 18mm lug width, which would've been my assumption, they're either very bent - which I doubt - or the endlinks were filed down, reducing the value of the bracelet significantly.

Oh, and the crown is indeed incorrect, but if it's a flat foot example, it'll be worth more than the clover crown that it should likely have. 馃榾

Of course, not overly relevant, those two points, as it still is what it is.

That's an interesting point. The endlinks seem to be the same width as the end of the bracelet, so I don't think they are filed down. I would like to know the width of the end-links and the distance between the lugs.

Yeah, me too now. 馃榿

In some pics it looks like the first link after the endlink protrudes a little, could be the angle though.

But since the OP has the watch, maybe he can enlighten us and measure the endlinks. 馃榾

Some of the things you look at remind me I need way more time evaluating these watches.

I've said before, and others here also, Take a month or two devouring this Forum and studying pictures of known originals in great condition, then as you proceed from there, with whatever you see in the wild, come back and compare and study and come to some conclusions.

Then ask informed questions with your observations so we can then help.

Welcome

Enjoy the journey

And remember, there are users here who have looked at thousands of examples of a certain ref - literally, not a figure of speech. It鈥檚 only natural they have a much more refined eye for details.

Thank you will do that
as you might remember, beginnings are not easy, and what will look absolutely obvious a little later, it ain't at the beginning

Why did you start to collect vintage watches and not newer ones?
I have been collecting new watches for several years, and just now getting interested in vintage examples (omega and various chronos)

I know. I admire that and appreciate the willingness to share knowledge that was a real labor of love to accumulate..

Why do you treat collectors here like a bunch of fortune tellers ? How would we know? Ask the Auction house all questions. And come back here with your own research and then we might guide you. The value of a repainted dial plummets the watch value around 50%.
Do you ever give a helpful response or just this unhelpful useless stuff?

I would avoid insulting Forum members that are highly respected and most knowledgeable and been around here since the beginning.

But, you do you.

Yes, we all started where you are at right now......but some of us predate Forums like this with members willing to help get you further up the Bell Curve.

Not any shortcuts other than buy from a Dealer who HAS(hopefully being truthful) done all the research and then pay them to mail you a watch.

My two eyes melded into one giant cyclops from reading and studying this Forum and others when I found this forum.

enjoy the journey

You can avoid whatever you want, in my opinion, the recent responses I鈥檝e seen from this forum member who you say is highly respected are for the most part arrogant, nasty, unhelpful garbage. Not respected by me, that鈥檚 for damn sure. Not saying the person is not knowledgeable, but the arrogant nonsense is not needed nor is it helpful to anyone trying to learn and understand.
