Without getting into the specific example that is being offered here, I think you need to consider the fact that when buying a Ranchero you are paying a big premium for the "Ranchero" writing on the dial. The 2990 also came as "regular" Seamasters without the "Ranchero" on the dial. These typically go for anywhere in between 300$ and 1000$, depending on the style of the dial and hands. So whether that additional text is worth a 5-10X increase in value is something you need to figure out.

    Interesting,
    I didnt realize that.
Of course the words "Ranchero" can easily be worth a lot, give what a dot is worth now

Exactly, that is why I think it is tricky to put a value on it. The fact that not too many of these seem to be on the market also makes it difficult to assess.

well that's what makes these interesting, isn't it? "meters first", 2 line vs 4 line subs, Dot Over 90, alpha vs baton hands... if it's a Ranchero you want, then, well, you pay for it. if you just like the style, there are lots of alternatives.. as with pretty much any watch out there.

I would LOVE to find an original 2996 "military" Seamaster. The problem is that there are an endangered species! They all been converted to fake Rancheros.
