What do you guys think? Is this Tricompax dial original? What about the rest?

Long time watcher, first time poster.

I just bought a Tricompax pretty cheaply, considering current market price. Do you think think is original? I am having real trouble putting together the pieces.

My initial reaction would be "yes" - though the word Tri-Compax look s little to high on the dial. What do you guys think?

I am also pretty skeptical about the back, which is steel. Either this is a solid gold piece or? Is it possibly gold plated?

    Give me your thoughts!

    ,David

    Hi David and welcome.

A "4" as the first digit of the reference number (42201) means that this is a gold plated case.

As for the dial, at first glance I wasn't sure about the centering of the printing of the date circle but everything else checks out so I think it's original.

For me, the strongest aspect of this watch is the size - it must be what, 38mm? Overall, not a bad opening post on the Forum!

Just had a look at the listing - gutsy buy - those are some really shoddy photographs.

Thank you! It was gutsy - but I got the watch for $2,200 - so it worked out alright.

The caliber is a 481, which puts it to about 34-35mm in diameter.

It'll need some love and care to be working well again.

Checks out in my book. You got quite a bargain. Make sure you get it serviced properly.

    Congrats and welcome!

Oh yes - I'm trying to get it serviced by Al Archer, in Canada. I know he's trustworthy and competent, though shipping from the US to Canada is proving difficult.

It'll be in good hands with Al, definitely worth any hassle shipping wise.

That would be an exceptionally complicated dial to refinish. Almost certainly original.

    Congratulations!
