What do we think?

What does it look like where the bracelet has worn a notch in the lug? Is it a different colour?

Are the tips of the lugs a consistent gold colour or does it look like gold cap/plate like on the picture above?

Ultimately you’re going to have to take it to a gold buyer to get it tested.

I think you could be in bother on this one. I’m still not convinced the case is gold.

Are you familiar with handling gold and its weight? Have you had this tested?

At best it’s a locally made case, but given the apparent wear to some of the lugs and the external gold marks I’m not convinced.

Yep I saw that too. Looks awfully like brassing. That’s why I finished with expect the worst

I’m not sure I definitely see either 750 or 18k there but it certainly looks like some kind of gold purity mark. Strange there are no inner marking. Usually there would be even with a local case. You have a bit if a mystery there. Based on the upper shape I’d guess at 14K being more likely but the lower number doesn’t look like 585 so that’s maybe not the case. It could if course be 9k, 10K or lots of other options depending on where it was made.

Usually external gold markings like that are a red flag on an Omega, but the out and out fakes don’t have genuine movements, yours does so who knows. Give it a clean up and inspect it closely. If you see any plate wear or brass break through, expect the worst.
I agree you can't really see. You can just about make out a 7 and a 5. Making it 18k . Looks slightly a 14k but with the 7 and 5. Got to be 18k. There are numbers on the back of the case. 02665 very rubbed also. But you can make them out.

That's certainly not an Omega case. It may or may not be gold. Some fake cases have fake stamps. You will need to have it tested.

It's definitely gold. I checked with acid.

In that case, you should be good financially. I wouldn't invest a penny in restoring it.

You’re certain it’s solid and not plate or cap?

I will take your advice. Thank you... just dismantled the watch. And the dial on the back says metallique sa geneve. Looks to be made of gold also. Will post a picture or two in a moment. Could just be brass or even copper. Not sure at all.

The dial is most certainly not gold. I suspect your metal ident skills aren’t quite what you think they are. When you see any form of the word metal on the inner workings of a watch it means that particular part is anything but gold. You see it a lot on case rings.

Acid will return a positive result for plate or cap.

That’s what I mean. Just because he’s done a quick scratch test with acid, doesn’t prove it’s solid 14/18.

I still have doubts this case is solid gold. Happy to be proved wrong.

Had no acid left to check the material. Have bought more from ebay.

Do you have some better pictures of the reverse of the lugs To see what the wear looks like?

The acid test i did was good. No change in colour.
Yes but an acid yes just tests the surface. 18ct gold cap will also test positive using acid of its a thick layer.
You need to be sure the gold is solid, not just a surface layer over base metal

If you take it to a gold buyer, they will make you an offer, and then you will know. Don't waste money buying test kits.
