Funny. The straight up picture gives a totally different perspective.

Just goes to show that when it comes to purchasing a vintage watch, the only dumb questions are the ones that you don't ask. So far I'm 3 for 3 on buying nice vintage pieces with help from OF members. Incredibly helpful resource.

They even got the brushing on the outside portion of the dial correct.

Scary good,

I was impressed until I saw the head-on picture. Too thick crosshairs and inconsistencies in printing (at 6 o'clock as @Shabbaz says).

I thank you as well for your comments. Learning more every day as to how to avoid landmines.

This is true. However, these are easy defects to fix for the next one.

They got the basics, such as the fonts, aging lacquer and the two tone finish correct.

That's why it is scary good.

That finish is remarkable.

And I'm not so sure a cal 501 would have been installed in a sixth production run of a 2852. Seems late.

REdial.

How that dial should look like:

Let’s put these side by side for comparison

If I could only adjust the lighting.

Still way too close for comfort.

Swiss Made isn’t centered under the 6 either. I was fooled at first too. The straight on photo makes it clear.

This is an enormous peeve of mine — when sellers photos make it obvious he’s trying to hide something. Particularly the professional watch dealers on eBay, whose photo quality varies depending on the watch.

You guys are so good at this. 👍

I wonder how many watches, collectively, OF members view every day?

The longer you do this, the easier this gets, I think.

Here’s my comparison of the two dials

This makes it really obvious. I don’t like the hands either.

Look at where the crosshairs meet the minute hashmarks at 3,6,9, and 12. Lots of decent redials get those spots wrong. And of course what I meant by REdial is the use of ER instead of RE in chronometre.

Before I joined this forum, I didn’t know about the importance of straight-on pictures. This is the best proof. Looks so much better from an angle, even though - thankfully - there are still smaller details like the weird a and the re vs er spelling. But much harder to notice.

I think that we all have to admit that it’s a pretty damn good redial. Not perfect by any means, but much better than many of the redials that are discussed on OF and certainly good enough to fool a lot of potential buyers.

A bit of a critique of that particular picture: way too much use of image sharpening.Notice the white areas around the black areas. It has the effect of making the edges of the lines look sharper than they are.

Oooo I also noticed this and was wondering if this is a dead giveaway of a redial? Could it be possible that chronometer/re could’ve been produced both ways originally?
