What can you tell me about this watch? (CK 2577 or CK 2846)

I just got this watch from my grandfather and I would like to know more about it. My knowledge about watch is very limited.

Here is what I know so far:

It is either a CK 2577 or CK 2846 (according to someone I asked).
My grandfather (currently 89 years old) got it from his dad, this might give an indication of when it was purchased.

I have attached two photos of the watch and its original casing.

Hope to hear more about this sentimental piece from everyone here!

Nice watch.

You should take it to a watchmaker and have it serviced if you want to wear it or at least have the back removed so you can record (pictures are best) the numbers inside. The numbers on the inside of the caseback will tell you the reference and on the movement the 3 digit number is the movement and there will be a number in the millions, the serial number. The serial number will let you date the watch.

Is the back steel or gold?

Do not let an unqualified person work on that watch (that means you, too.)

And don't let them offer to "clean" the dial or polish the case.

Nice watch!

Gently shake the watch back and forth. If you feel and hear a “thump” then it’s a bumper movement and likely a 2577. If you don’t, then it’s a full rotor movement and probably a 2846. There are other options as well but these two references are the most common.

Case back photos would help a lot too in determining the case reference.

A quick way to tell, other than the thump of the movement, the 2577 bumper has a screw back, the 2846 with full rotor 500 or 501 uses a press on back with gasket. There are other possibilities too but without more info that’s about it.

Post s phot of the caseback and we can tell you more.
