I bought 2 old Omegas from a guy in Kabul. I managed to pop the back off of one of them and will post the photos. It is a Seamaster 600 according to the watch face. It is my understanding it came from India many years ago. The markings say 17 jewel Swiss make and I included a photo of the inner face of the back plate
All wrong, redial, should have been a Geneve with date, wrong movement in case, totally franken A ref. 14724-SC-61, caliber 610 should look like this:
When I read the title, my first thought was this is not going to be good. Really was hoping for a surprise positive outcome, but pretty much as expected...
You know, there are Afghan Air Force issued Omegas (and Zeniths too). That's what Id' be digging around Kabul for.
Thanks for the replies. I had no illusions of getting anything work "real" money but I did want to know what it was worth. I am assuming it is junk status based on the above comments. Thanks for the help and the advice!!!
Not necessarily junk, but nothing of significant value either. The case and movement are Omega, although I'm sure there are some non-standard parts in there. The seller was probably correct about the Indian connection. That's a major chopshop area for watchparts. Hope you didn't get stung too badly. gatorcpa
I buy semi-precious stones from the guy for the past 3 years that have all been worth more than what I paid for them. This time I trusted him when he said it was a quality old watch. I paid 400 USD for it and 320 for another Seamaster automatic that I will post photos of tonight. The watches he has all all on new bands, some cheap, some leather but none are original. Thanks for the input! I will now go back to see him about getting my money back or credit towards some sapphires.
Knowledge is a very good thing, when you are to buy vintage watches in odd places like where you are now. Not meant in a bad way. Stick to the stones, it sounds like. I think LouS might be better off, finding the vintage watch gems in Kabul
