I had a glycine combat sub for awhile and it was a nice watch for the price. I don't know about their gmts though. I'm assuming it's a caller GMT at that price?

I am also surprised about its price. Then I began reading, and figured out it has a quartz movement. I also found the auto version which is 3-4 times more expensive when I dag more. I hadn't seen these models before. I only wanted to obtain some info and make sure these timepiece are genuine Glycine.

I would think they are likely genuine - they are all fairly affordable.

I see Jomashop has the auto version for around $600. You may like the glycine stylings more, but that's within the price range of the new Seiko 5ks gmts as well.

Glycine also has a lot of new watches riffing on their classic Airman watches, and some of them are a lot of fun for relatively low price. But, the 24-hour dial can be a little hard to read.

Looks like it's a bit cheaper if you order direct from their website. The other color schemes are even less. https://www.jomashop.com/glycine-combat-sub-sport-gmt-quartz-black-dial-mens-watch-gl1054.html

I don't like the Invicta pricing strategy. Claiming it retails for $1,295, but WAIT, buy now for an 83% discount! Nonsense. For me personally, it's not something I would entertain. I'm not into cheap quartz stuff and I don't really like homage watches. Especially GMT homages because that blue and red bezel is just so noticeable. Maybe I've just become too snobby though. That said, there are some cool variations of the Glycine Combat Sub with an automatic that I like.

Thank you very much for the info Dsloan. I understand what you mean by 'busy dial' because I had an Airman 24 hour dial. It needs some getting used to. I used to read the time wrong sometimes, thinking that it is 4 o'clock while it was actually 8! 😀

Thank you very much for this info Aroxx. You would think that ebay would offer better prices. I will check Jomashop for the auto models now, then compare the prices with ebay. Let's see what the result will be,

I agree @Aroxx they are doing some questionable stuff with their brand history.

I don't mind them reissuing homages to old models. I still own this one:

And I did like my little combat sub... But there's a lot of lame stuff going on in their design shop.

I had an Airman very similar to yours, Dsloan. Mine was a mid 2000's production if I am not mistaken, and had sapphire crystal. Yours looks like a bit older model (?). What is the crystal material on yours?

This one is 'the chief' model and I think it's from ~2018 or so. It's 36mm and I think it's a plexi crystal. It was one of the first watches I bought and I wish I'd gotten the black dial if I could go back in time. I'd love to pick up an OG model at some point but I'm weary of all the fakes and frankens.

Even Seikos and Ciizens are faked for a long time, unfortunately. I was about to buy 3 Seiko SKX007s in a big shopping center while I was on my Asia vacation. When I inspected them side by side, I became suspicious about the crown and bezel qualities. And when I flipped them and checked their serial numbers, I saw that all 3 of them had same serial numbers! And of course I gave the seller s**t for wasting my time.

I just compared the auto Combat model between Jomashop and ebay. It is the same, Jomashop price is much more reasonable. Another item on my shopping list. Why do I have to read, why do I have to look at your fotos anyway? ::facepalm1::

Here are two Glycines from back in the olden days of the late 1940s/ early 1950s. They are both accurate and useful and no Invicta in sight. Don't think Invicta make much use of solid 18kt gold in their cases.

This is one tough watch. It's been my beater watch since the 1980s.

They are both awesome. Gorgeous, indeed. My father used to have a Hislon (Swiss made) very similar to your gold Glycine, and wore it for the rest of his life. Wear them in the best of health.

This thread convinced me to pop this reissue on a nato and give it some wrist time.

Very nice. I wonder how it would look with a reddish brown leather. I think it will look dressier then. How is your Airman's accuracy?

Yeah, a brown leather nato would be fun. The case height is pretty thin, so I think it would work.

So far, the accuracy is good. I haven't tracked it to know precisely, but I'm glad it's just accurate to within a minute after sitting ina drawer for ~5 years.

The movement is listed as a GL293 which is based on a ETA GMT - they just put the hour hand where the 24-hour/GMT hand would usually go and omit a 12-hour hand.

That is a very good accuracy, for sure. I will definitely try to hunt one of these beauties down soon.
