Pardon my ignorance, but in the US, its TAX SEASON. Hopefully you've all been good children and paid (or overpaid) Uncle Sam and are getting some cash back. What are we spending it on? (If you are a non-US member, which I assume most people are, I will accept any refund or tax related purchases ;))

I am a demon seed, haven't gotten a refund in over 30 years, always have to pay my uncle in April...

Guess that means I shouldn't expect to inherit a nice watch from him ?

Tax season in Switzerland also. Since i'm not Swiss i get directly taxed on my salary but I still manage to get 400chf back last year and I bought a Polerouter with that. This year I think i'll keep the money since my contract ends at the end of April and I have yet to find another job.

I am swiss and the story is, that the tax office usually uses excess funds of last year to cover part of the taxes for the actual year...

I happily pay so that those who are too lazy to work here in the US can continue to receive their no strings attached government assistance! ::rant:

Yep, one way I look at it is if you do get a refund, you've basically given your uncle an interest free loan.

I'm perfectly happy taking no deductions (paying more than I owe through the year) and getting a tax return - I live within the means of my regular paychecks, then get a nice little chunk of cash to play with in the spring.

I'm paying the deductible on 2 cat scans, an MRI, one urgent care visit and one ER visit. 3 Doctor appointments and 3 prescriptions. Thank God for socialized Medicare here in the good old USA. What I have left I think I'll send to Bernie Sanders. Sciatic nerve acted up for the first time. Never would have believed something could hurt that much and not kill you. Feeling much better now!

The question for me is what could I have bought if I didn't have to pay!

Would love to keep politics out of this. Some pretty controversial stuff getting thrown around here, lets save it for another thread.

The problem with that is our normal thread drift. It's a genetic response.

Don't get me started...... ::censored::

I'm relatively new to this forum, but its always disappointing to see this kind of stuff. Reducing problems with healthcare or unemployment to simplistic policies and causes is a dullard's game. Thomas Gray wrote "Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise." Clearly true in this case.

Hey if I didn't pay my taxes the hedge fund managers, and multi-national corporations might be expected to pay.
