This is the watch I am craving for. If I can even find one for sale and for a reasonable price (wishful thinking). Omega Speedmaster 376.0822
Here's a different take on it. I visited the Heirloom Gallery in Singapore today, and tried on a ploprof thinking that it would affirm my suspicions about the watch wearing too big on my 6.5" wrist. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I think my suspicions were unfounded.
Nope, as I'm still holding out for an ed white. But this may force a re-ordering of future priorities.
IWC Mark XII or XV. Either pay for constant JLC movement servicing (Mark XII) or a more reliable but "plain" ETA (Mark XV).
These have been on my short list for a long time. Please remind me what the issues are with the XII. I seem to recall complaints, but my 889/2 JLC has been the best performing watch I've got, despite lack of regular service. Also, can independents get parts? Seems it could have a higher level of parts complexity.
Apparently, the movement is considered too fragile (by some) for a sport watch. There are some reports that the rotor needs to be changed out regularly. Since this is a joint IWC/JLC watch, third party servicing is less likely. Mark XI would be even cooler, but a bit too rare/pricey. I love that there is a tracking page for them: http://www.markeleven.com
Zenith cal 135 chronometre in rose gold or steel Universal Polerouter Sub, first version/edition/execution (with totally shot dial and bezel so I can get it for less than a fortune and get to use my NOS dial and bezel) IWC Ingenieur ref 3227 Ref 568.016 ladys Constellation, cal 685 mint 168.005 case and movement for my NOS black pie pan dial. A rough matte dial for a 16750 GMT Master (for my Brando project 16753 GMT Master) I could go on forever...
Since landing my grail in October, I haven't had a craving in nearly half a year! I have ideas of watches I would like to add, but no true "craving." My list includes Omega 105.012-(65, 66 CB), Rolex Daytona (new or recent), AP Royal Oak Chronograph (not Offshore), a dress watch like Patek Philippe 5120... Along the way, I'll probably get some less expensive examples to play with. My "pattern," which is really the result of collecting for 30 years, is to slowly capture each piece in order of value (low to high), then trade that watch with cash for the next one until I reach the top. Then start over like I am now... This is the first time in my (watch collecting) life I have not wanted to trade my best watch for something better!
Well if we're talking about cravings let's see, a 2254 will be on the cards later on this year. A black dialed pie pan like the one that was on the sc a few weeks ago and the hunt for a seamaster 165 that hasn't spent the last fifty years on the bottom of a lake is a given. Now there's a few more I'm fancying but those three will satisfy this years itch if I'm lucky enough to get them
