What are some expensive watches that come off as looking inexpensive

    I usually see the reverse of this question, and I though it would be something fun to think about. What watches do you have/know that cost a pretty penny, but look cereal box cheap or very understated, and only those who know watches would recognize?

    IWCs white ceramic DA Vinci

    Back in the day it cost some serious dough (2 or 3 cars), yet looks like it came out of a dollar shop.

    I'm on my phone so can't really link to it ... Image google it

    I also agree with the Explorer. It's one of the reasons I bought it. I know what I'm wearing, but most others do not.

    For me, the one that takes the cake is the Swatch platinum limited edition!

    @alam You nailed it.

    Watches of similarly garish, overwrought design regularly fetch more. I would put many (most?) openworked watches in this category. Where I see their layouts and design as frantic, undisciplined and overly complicated in almost every aspect – enough people view this intricacy as an expression of opulence ...and a market can be sustained. To each his own. I'm quite happy in fact that vintage isn't for everyone.

    WSOTM immediately sprung to mind when reading the first post...

    Agree completely. The work may be highly skilled, but the end result is always "too much" for me...
