What about this JFK-style Omega?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the Omega Forums, and kicking off with this as my first thread.

A friend was asking me about this (1950s?) Omega that he has. To be honest, it's a bit older than the Omegas I have.

I said that I would try to find out a little more.

Can anyone shed some light on the model number and the likely year of the watch?

google says ref 3985, probably late 50s. the serial number would give that info.

Just to be clear, as we all know, the OP watch is obviously not the same reference as JFK's watch. Both are gold tank watches, but totally different in style.

Caliber 471 with Dan's reference number.

Iffy on date of this model though

Some simple hands and indexes like yours. Others have numbered, stylized indexes, dauphine pitched hands and listed as 60’s

50’s had more stylized hands and dials. Gradually changing over to more simple dials of the mid 60’s.

Serial number on the movement might give a better date
