I agree with your statement about untouched v refinished and mentioned it because the sellers statement "The case is very thick , and still has very nice bevels on the lugs."

What are your concerns with the insert?
It just looks (to me) like a replacement. Same as some of the others posted here. a 1960's bezel tends to show it's age. I could be wrong.

I was not a 100% sure myself. I sent a picture off to someone who would know. He responded that it was original 1970's and correct for the watch.

And that is the case, but get assurances on writing from the seller that is is original to THE watch. just in case. As I said, I could be wrong and hope I am.

I really like the matt dial and prefer one without the white gold marker surroundings.
To bad that it's really hard to figure out if a GMT is original or not..

Its no harder than any other watch. Patience and research is key to any vintage purchase.

The case appears refinished to me, but impossible to tell from those small images. This is mine from 1965 as a reference, I feel pretty confident it was never touched.
