Yup, that’s the one I had but in 42mm. I wanted it to be more of a dress watch with the rose gold but it was still too big.

 

Would not mind one of the original issued ones. Morden ones are not as appealing to me.

 

My take: oversized, overpriced, until quite recently bad movements and only made into the mainstream because of Hollywood (e.g. Sly and Schwarzenegger).

After surfing the hype wave for a little while, the prices are going down.

With so many cool watches out there, I wouldn't waste my money on a Panerai.

Decent watches... not for the price... finishing and movements are subpar for the price. Base models will tank soon.

Two words: Brooklyn Bridge

 

Every brand has had their fair share of misses. Their historic series are great watches. They certainly rode the hype wave, but now that their popularity is slipping, prices are becoming attractive. And I put their Unitas movements in the plus category. Solid time keepers, easy to service, and excellent parts availability.

 

To be fair not a bad movement.... just felt like bait and switch, and started the WIS away from Pam.

 

In my book, this was a good for Panerai. May have even been Machiavellian brand brilliance. Slow the hype.

Even a Seiko 5 with a 7S26 looks better and cost 100-something...

In their defense they offered to replace those with a higher grade version. I wonder how many people took them up on it.

 

I want a 45 mm, handwound Radiomir, and I've been casually looking for a second market PAM 183 or a PAM 609/610. I find an elegance in the Radiomir and its wire lugs. I also have larger wrists, and I was very surprised how much I like the way it wears.

I want simple and big, that might still fit under a cuff if I really tried. Although, who am I kidding to act like I ever really wear a jacket or sleeves that aren't rolled any more?

 

I picked up a 441 and really like it. Something different and fits my big wrist well.

 

Had this in my collection for a while, although big and chunky didn’t feel as robust as my planet ocean.

Service prices are high too

 

Not a fan, personally. Never understood the hype or the price point.

 

I am currently considering a 34mm UG White Shadow.

 

Fabulous watches in my opinion
I started with a 214 in 2012, which is a Radiomir Rattrapante split second chrono, 45mm SS case, 31 jewel valjoux based OPXVIII double column 28,800 vph movement with 42 hr power reserve (unfortunately no movement shot).

Next came a 359, which I px/traded for the 214 in 2014, this is a Luminor Marina 1950 3 day automatic with a 44mm SS case

I now have a tritium dialled 002 from 1999, this also has a 44mm SS case, with a manual wind OP.I movement.

All very different, but I have enjoyed each one just as much as the next.
