The idea that at a certain age we just start to go down hill is a myth that needs to be debunked. If you keep your body and mind healthy, as in read, be active, do weights, eat the right foods etc etc.. you will stay in good shape, if you don’t you deteriorate. There are many examples of people who are in their 70s and 80s who are considered to be in fantastic shape for their age, if we all followed their example, it would stop being remarkable.
I just ran my first marathon 2 weeks ago at a snails pace of 4 and a half hours. There is a guy in his 80s who ran a marathon in under 4 hours and another in his 70s who did it in under 3 hours. I’m thinking I have a few years to out do these guys😀 I am only 48😀

She not only passed the bar,
I agree taking care of yourself, eating right and exercise is certainly a benefit in aging but genetics plays a part in all this and unfortunately many of those who are diagnosed with various dementia have not lived unhealthy lives. Since we will never know 100% until we arrive at that age it’s probably a wise move to act like we will be all be going for Phd at 89 but in my case I think I’ll be happy if I can still do stairs at that age, or remember where I put my watch.
Definitely true, and I hope you and your family stay healthy into old age. My point was more of a generalisation about attitudes toward getting old. I think too many people just expect a certain outcome because that is what they saw happening to old people when they were young.
I know this attitude is changing but if it can change at a quicker pace, more people can live a better life in old age.
