Buddy of my married last saturday. He came up to my house to pick up the wedding car. I asked him if he had a nice watch for the wedding. Mistake number 1. Then I offered him one of mine to wear. Mistake number 2. And then I had a weak moment of sentimental feelings so I said he could keep the watch. Mistake number 3. Anyway, what was your best watch related gift?

    I will miss my iwc...

I won't give my best friend a watch because his wife is an absolute scum of the earth. (I would have love to though).

Anyways, I have to attend a wedding this weekend, was wondering which piece to wear.

The Accutron 214 I wore on our wedding day in April of 1966. Recent photo. Still looks and runs like new.

Woah, can we be friends too? ;-)

What a fantastic gesture from you to your buddy! To your original question, what was the best watch related gift for me... well, it was a watch from my then (now ex) girlfriend; a Seiko Sumo. It was the watch that really got me into watches, my Japanese Rolex at the time. I wore it for our wedding registration:

Holy shit this deserves wasaay moar than a /humblebrag.
Do you think he and wifey have any idea of the "retail" value of such an item?

This story is pretty close to legend status...

I'm assuming this is an 853?
I hope your dear friend has at least a basic understanding of watches.

Otherwise, it's like giving an e46 m3 to a dude who doesn't really like cars and can't drive a manual...lol

Or, worse, hooking a gheigh guy up with prime Jenna Jameson.

Unlike the Accutron, the wife is unrestored. But still here!

Wow @Shabbaz, great gesture! I would be too nervous to even lend a watch to my friend getting married. I remember how I was during the wedding and how much I drank haha

I wore a Reverso Grande Taille for my wedding and flipped it when I started getting a little sloppy.

@sdre, definitely the Connie man! I have a wedding next weekend and I need to start thinking about my choice there as well.

I bought an Rolex date for my wife and an 1803 DD for myself just before our wedding. I was classy enough to ask the wedding photographer for a dual wrist shot :p

She still wear hers but I flipped mine 2 weeks after the wed to afford a sub. Kinda regret that! ::confused2::
