Wearing an Omega in a hot tub/sauna?

Tried running a search but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I own a Speedmaster Professional and a GSOTM. Is it safe to wear either of these in a hot tub or sauna? I was recently at a boutique and the employees were a little weary of doing so. Then I went across the hall to a Rolex boutique and the guy told me "We encourage you to wear your Rolex in the hot tub ;)"

Now I understand Rolex and Omega are completely different watches but am just hoping to get a clear answer and maybe some input as to why Omega couldn't handle either environment.

    TIA
    -Eric

For a very unclear answer as to whether you are safe wearing your Omega (either one) in water, check the message board archive re: wearing a Speedmaster in water. After reading about the topic, you may still not have the final answer.

    Quite a dumb question ::shy::

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Still trying to learn the ins and outs of different watches and capabilities.

    We all started somewhere, right?

Just don't. The heat may not be good for the seals.

Every water resistant watch that leaves the factory truly water restistant, will be water resistant, but only under some conditions, until it LEAKS. Sorta like playing Russian roulette!

I wouldn't risk it. Messing up your Omega, in a hot tub, could be very embarrassing.
Problem Solved: Run the Omega through a dishwasher a few times before you hit the hot tub.::psy::

OK, I'll bite. I have worn a Speedie in a Sauna, a hot tub, a Jacuzzi and the sea a few times, inadvertently, mainly due to alcohol. The glitter ball and mirrored ceiling make the dial hard to read. I would recommend a more legible dial like a Seiko Diver.

So a few things going on here:

1 - your Speedmasters are water resistant to a certain level when new. They only keep this level of WR if the seals are checked/replaced as per scheduled maintenance (which fluctuates depending on the conditions you wear the watch in).

2 - Rolex is not the same as Speedmaster. You're comparing a brand, to a model.

3 - Some Omega watches are specifically designed to get very wet. Some aren't.

Speedmasters are WR to a certain level, but there are other watches that Omega make which are much more WR (dive watches like the Seamaster 300, Planet Ocean, PloProf for example).

The OB staff were perhaps a little reticent of advicbg you to take your WR, but not heavily WR watches into prolonged periods of water submersion/steam.

4 - If in doubt, watch Goldeneye. Steamrooms, Saunas and hot tubs are dangerous places, unless you're Onatop of things.

If you intend using any watch in a hot tub, I highly recommend this £25 Lorus:

I've dragged that thing through two oil slicks and untold numbers of other places far too horrific to name. I once had to replace the battery in it.

On the other hand, just forget the watch and take one of these:

well actually NBR seal can withstand 80°C. they probably use viton seals I assume which are even better. or maybe silicone which is even more temperature resistant.
Considering that I work in food machines industry if heat was the problem all the gaskets would leak and nothing would work.
