I am looking to purchase a 2254.50. There are many around and I am sure I will find one I want to buy. However, I just noticed, while looking closely at various pics on the usual internet sources that Omega's black wavy 300m dial is different that the blue dial. On the blue dial, the "waves" go all the way to the edges of the dial. On the black dial, they stop short of the edge- in front of the small minute markers. (I'll try to post photos later today) I have not seen this discussed here before and a forum search of the topic came up empty. So is this trait common to ALL the 300m black dials?
I've had a look at pics of a 2254.50 and the 2255.80 (the Electric Blue). In both cases, the waves stop at the minute markers. Here's mine.
My point exactly. If you want something from the sword hand SMP family, the waves ain't going past the minute markers. Other models may have different dial styles. Unless of course, someone knows differently.....
Undeterred by this rousing thread , I have acquired a beautiful 2254.50 from Kringkily on this forum. Can't wait for it to arrive. When it does arrive, I intend to completely disassemble it, clamp the dial in my bench vise and use a black sharpie to extend each wavy line to the "Outer Limits!"
Make sure you use the right size scissors for opening the caseback and don't forget the vent the helium before you start. And pics BEFORE you start your modifying adventure
