Well, I'm guessing that @eugeneandresson isn't from Europe, as he'd then be aware of the fact that there isn't any custom issues amongst EU countries - hence my advice. I thought that @Perrier too might not be aware of it.

You'll have to deal with customs a lot, I guess. I bet the watch scene makes up for it!

I'm talking to a famous watchmaker in the UK .

I only know of a few famous watchmakers in the UK.....🤔

I think marking the shipment as return/repair and declaring low value on it to avoid customs and then insuring the package with parcelpro is the best bet to go.

...coz I mistakenly thought I lived in the heart of Europe, and always had to deal with customs 😁

Although, CH does have freetrade agreement and free movement of people agreement and all that and like the UK is not 'fully' part of Europe in a similar way (currency, shengen visa != entry to UK), there are differences, and this must be one of them.

I forgot the EU issue with CH once and had a nasty surprise from the Danish custom's 😬

Paris is not in the UK. So customs still applicable.
Paris customs are awful....don’t go there.

Parcel pro is best

I've given my watch to my friend who will just ship it from Paris. Thanks @ConElPueblo for this excellent suggestion!

As regards servicing the watch in Hong Kong - I've had bad experiences with both Berne Horology and Classic Watch Repair, so I would never use them again.

France and UK are (still) both in the UK - ergo there is no custom's issue. He can insure it for whatever he likes without getting "caught" in the receiving country's custom's.

If you are shipping from Paris to the UK then put nothing on the package as nothing is required and to advertise its value is foolish and asking for trouble. Obviously insure it as you see fit but there is no requirement to put any value info on a shipment within the EU.

Yes, by the English who at that time claimed a major chunk of France as their own via Norman and Angevin dynastic claims so CEP was technically correct. From the English standpoint of 700-500 years ago that is!

And of course from another viewpoint, the Norman conquest of England and subsequently Wales from the C11th onwards means that England and its associated states could be considered already part of France, its all very confusing!

Prior to that, England was ruled either in part or briefly in full by the Danes. Now they are another gang altogether! 😉
