We all have some sort of interest and/or personal link to a specific year. Might be your birth year, the year you got engaged/married, got a child, or the year where happened an event that is somehow special to you.

Besides your special event, there is no doubt that lots of different watches were produced that year.

I often see people asking for help to :

- find a specific watch model from a specific year
- assess the variety of watches produced on a specific year

The purpose of this thread is to log photographs and details of different watches from the year 1971 owned by members of the OF Community.

- watches from all brands are allowed, as long as they are from the year 1971
- if you don't have any evidence to claim the year (extract from archives or sales papers), please do mention #estimated
- if you own evidences to claim the year, please do mention #confirmed and please elaborate on evidences available (extract from archives or sales papers) posting evidences is not mandatory
- it is obvious that a watch can be produced on a specific date confirmed by an extract from archives, or sold on a specific date confirmed by sales papers. To simplify, both are admitted here, please do elaborate on your references

Rolex GMT-Master 1675, dated by inside of case-back.

 

I just got back my Dads 1970s cosmic 2000 diver from service. He gifted it to me last year and I sent it to Omega for a full restore. He either bought it in 1971 or 1972...(‘71 would be a birth year watch for me). If anyone knows how to confirm this please let me know!! They unfortunately didn’t send back any historical records with the service

 

1971 Speedmaster Professional on an 1175 bracelet. All original and just about perfect. No papers, so I’ll say #estimated, but I know that it’s a ‘71.

You could confirm the delivery date by Omega by purchasing an Extract from the Omega Archives. The process is described on the Omega website and in many OF threads. That would not confirm the purchase date, however, since the watch could have stayed in retail inventory for an unknown amount of time.

1971 Gallet Multichron Pilot - #confirmed by original owner as purchased in 1971, on the original Speidel bracelet he wore it on.
1971 Seiko 6139-6002 "blue Pogue" Chronograph - #confirmed by serial number.

 

A Hamilton sub-brand; Vantage. This is a 1971 Vantage Alarm II. It has the AS 1475 movement.

#estimated This model only appears in the 1971 catalog, not the 70 or 72 catalogs.

My #comfirmed 1971 Speedy with NASA caseback. Interesting to see how much overlap there is in this date range; 69SW and both types of 71s all can be found with earlier and later production dates than this one.

Closest I have seen to my Omega Birthday watch, January 11, 1971 is the elusive date... it was a Monday so in theory should be possible.
I know, a bit silly and low odds, but we all have our own unicorns to hunt.
