My youngest grandson started pre-kindergarten this year. He has shown an interest in watches. He can tell time every now and then I give him some vintage and modern watches. Last night I was going through some junk boxes of watches

I fished these three out for him. Sometimes a junk box comes in handy for parts and straps. I need to fit a strap or bracelet on the certina. The sector watch will wear huge on the little guys wrist.

The eska looks good for a young boy. Not to big, less feminine than the certina. You should just (may be) put a new crown on and a leather strap?

    Good points
A couple months ago I struck a deal with my youngest grandson. I gave him a couple vintage watches. We came to an agreement.
That if he took care of his watches I gave him. For his birthday I would purchase him a new watch.

His birthday is a couple months away so far so good the kid has not beat the hell out of the watches I gave him. So I will get him decent watch for his birthday. I just need to figure out the type of watch he likes.

So far he leans towards a diver watch. Plenty of mid size divers to choose from. A mid sized watch should work well for him

I'm thinking a mid sized Citizen ep6050-17e the case is 34mm which will wear big but not that big. If the strap is too big for him I can always put it on a nato strap This watch should be able to take a beating

Seiko also makes a mid size diver SKX013k2 but the case is 38mm dia. Same deal the bracelet would have to be removed and put on a nato strap

He has a Baby G he told me he does not like it that much. I asked him why? He said it's a Babies watch hard to disagree with him with that comment

Try a Seiko 5. Inexpensive and very durable - I gave one to my son for Christmas several years ago (granted, he was 11 at the time, not six), and he's barely removed it from his wrist since then. It's taken a beating, but it runs well and still looks great.

I would chose a vintage watch more than a Seiko. Probably in order to educate the young kid :p
What does the Eska movement look like?
Actually there's a rather large choice in a non luxury mechanical watch. You can even find some NOS on ebay from the late 60's.

Success I purchased a diver watch for my youngest grandson. I know a couple jewelers that have nos watches. I stopped in one of the shops today. $80US out the door. This will make a great little diver for him.

The watch is not in the correct box. The jeweler pulled out some boxes and this one fit I told him good enough. The watch was sitting in a display case.

For the price I did not want to be too fussy. I settled on an incorrect box. If my grandson is anything like I was at that age the box will go in the trash

    Watches for a Young Boy?

What are you offering? I have a 5 year old, who is just now going through the Terrible Twos... So not really equal to a 2915 or even a 2998, but possibly a 153.002. Whatchagot?
