So I own a few pocket watches and mechanical watches, nothing fancy. I know nothing about watch movements but I'm interested. I'm curious to how they work and perform and I am brand new to the hobby. I'm just looking for anyone to give me advice, material, videos, blogs, etc. that can help me decide if this is something I want to invest time and potentially money in. Is it as simple as understanding as much material as possible and starting out slow, like taking apart a cheap mechanical pocket watch, to work my way up?

The only real thread I can find that was somewhat interesting was a thread about hobbyists work areas: http://omegaforums.net/threads/the-beginnings-of-my-watch-hobby-bench.5787/

    and this website:http://www.clockmaker.com.au/diy_seiko_7s26/

Basically where should I start from here?

    Thanks,

    Jon

I recommend to get a copy of DeCarle's Practical Watch Repair.
Also good idea to get screwdriver SET, cheap will do but needs stone. Get SET with sizes down to .5 mm. Pliers, loupe 4x 10x & mvmt holder and cheap working mvmnts.
    Tools this far 50€ max.

Beat me to it. Pretty much EXACTLY what I would recommend for starters. Add good tweezers to the list.

Sounds good. What do you mean by the screwdriver set needs a stone?
