Well if I was getting a package from NJ I would want both a geiger counter and a bomb sniffing dog.:cautious:

Those radium dials looks pretty :eek:dangerous:cautious: to me. Out of concern for your safety and that of your family, I strongly suggest you send them to me for safe disposal as specified by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I will even waive disposal fees for you as a fellow OF member. ;)

Yep, measuring radiation from the back of these watches the readings are only about 5-10 CPS vs. 100-400 CPS front, and .5-1.5 CPS background (at least in my house!). Only concern would really be accidental ingestion or inhalation of radium particles, or inhalation of the radon gas that accumulates under the crystal over time...

Receives packages in the mail marked "Precision instrument"?

The crystal stops most radiation from the dial. Tell you what, though, I have sent my Big Bens out for lume replacement, even if the radium paint still glows (it's the pigment that stops glowing, not the radium!) Super Luminova works really well.

Nice! Got any pre-Luminova shots of a Big Ben? I wouldn't mind having one of those...

Not specifiically. The paint varies from white (not oxydized, bright enough!) to a dirty yello (good luck seeing this).

That dial is actually green lume in real life, blue would be fun!

The same guy also did my Clock of Tomorrow.

He's had a hard time recently losing the sight in one eye but he's adapting. He painted my 1917 Ingersoll Midget wrist watch with new lume, suprising how well it works, and new lume!

If a dial has had all its radium removed does it still have residual radiation that is harmful? What I mean is has the dial absorbed radiation as well.

If all of the radium is removed, then there would be no further radioactivity. It doesn't get transferred.
